FANTASTIC.
Brilliant result. 11 wins out of 11 finals is unheard of. Sion should be allowed to keep the cup permanently in the stadium. A new cup should be made for next season.

“You're totally right when you talk about surprises. There is a story between Sion and the cup. Sion went 10 times in final and Sion always won it.
And it's really not the first time that Sion isn't favourite.
Tomorrow, it just will be great !!!
You were correct – Hope you enjoyed the game.
I will have to translate the reports to see how the match was played. Who were the best players? Are they staying to play next season?
Hope you all had a good journey back from Berne and did not drink too much beer/wine. It is a problem if you fall asleep and forget to get off the train! You could end up having to walk home!

Re: Congratulations from England./Félicitations d'Angleterre.
Here's a little summary of the match I wrote this morning..Enjoy!
This was meant to be the one they would lose. This was meant to be the match that ended FC Sion's unparalleled run of 10 cup finals, 10 wins, a feat which no other team in the world has come close to matching. But this final would surely change all that. This had to be the one step to far. Indeed, FC Sion had benefited from one of the most fortuitous runs to the final, playing FC St Gall in the quarters, a team languishing in the Swiss Second Division, whilst requiring penalties to oust FC Lucerne, the likeliest candidates for relegation from the top flight this season. Meanwhile, Young Boys Bern were enjoying one of their finest seasons yet, having lost only once this year, rivaling FC Zurich and FC Basle for the title, and having beaten FC Sion 3 times already this season, the last win (2-1) coming but a mere week ago. On paper, Sion didn't stand a chance on this synthetic pitch. Surely, the legend of FC Sion in cup finals would be put to the sword tonight, everyone thought. Everyone, that is, except the 12 500 FC Sion fans in the stadium, and the thousands watching at home from Sion, to Damascus, to Bangkok.
After 30 minutes, everything was going as scripted. Through a calamitous defensive display, Sion had managed to literally gift Young Boys 2 goals, the first coming from the penalty spot, the second from a misjudged defensive header by Allioui who, in trying to defend a menacing long-ball, only succeeded in guiding the ball into his own net. Onlookers at this point would have been forgiven for thinking that this year the cup was staying in Bern. They should have known better.
It has been proved time and time again that it is when confronted with these exact circumstances, when its back is against the wall and all hope appears to be lost, that the legend of Sion comes alive. And who better, but the hero of the 2006 Swiss Cup Final, Goran Obradovic, to conjure the spirit of finals past and blow the first notes on the comeback Alpenhorn. 2-1 just before half-time, and from then on there was no doubt as to whose name would be etched on the cup next to the numbers "2008-2009." Sion came charging out of the blocks in the second half, like a reine possessed. So fitting it was therefore, that Stephane Sarni, a local boy who has plied his trade at FC Sion since he was a child, to score the equalizing goal after an in swinging free-kick by, you guessed it, Goran Obradovic. Young Boys were left stunned, groggy, and close to K.O. The third and final goal, the winning goal, the one that will be re-played over and over in the minds of FC Sion supporters for centuries to come, could not have epitomized this particular cup final more succinctly.
Aphonso, a player who has been largely anonymous this season (especially in front of goal), who was only in the starting line-up because Sion had no other real strikers available, and who will most probably move on this summer, produced a moment of sheer brilliance that he will probably never be able to replicate. His close control, composure, and finish on this move would have made even Lionel Messi look on in amazement. As the Stade de Berne watched him skip by the last defender and rifle the ball past the oncoming Wolfli, the reason why Sion are unbeaten in now 11 cup finals was made clear to all.
It doesn't matter who you are, or where you are from, when you put the FC Sion shirt you become a Valaisan, even if it's just for one night. And you become part of a people for whom this cup is more important than anything else. The cup defines Sion, and Sion defines the cup. And so, you play like your life depends on it. Because nobody wants to be the one to come home from Berne empty-handed, and on tonight's evidence, no Sion player ever will. Many will have thought they heard thunder on their way home last night, but it was just the football gods chanting "Si t'es fier d'etre Valaisan frappe dans tes mains" (If you're proud to be Valaisan then clap your hands).
HOP SION!

Thank you Valeredr for your report. It is good to read the story of the game. It must have been a fantastic atmosphere. 12,500 is a good crowd to take - it must have uplifted the team. Thank you for writing it in English. It is perfect. Have you lived in England or an English speaking country?valeredr a écrit :Here's a little summary of the match I wrote this morning..Enjoy!

Let us hope the team does not relax now. They must win some more games to guarantee safety in the league. I am looking forward to seeing them play in the summer. I expect the reception at the next home game will be fantastic. Will they parade round the ground with the cup?
Thanks again.
Re: Congratulations from England./Félicitations d'Angleterre.
No worries. I spent a few years in the UK and Australia.
I'm not sure if they'll parade the cup again, perhaps in the final home game against Bellinzone in 2 weeks time. Next up is Vaduz away though which is going to be really tough. I fear a post-cup hangover. Still though, what Sion did last night was incredible, unbelievable..

Re: Congratulations from England./Félicitations d'Angleterre.
Like Serey Die said at the end of the game (one African player from Sion) : it's the best title i've never won. I've won a few other but this one is the best. Look at the people. Sion won 11 out of 11. FC Sion is one of the greatest club in the world.jonesy a écrit :FANTASTIC.

Personally I think that Sion should recieve a kind of official recognition by the FIFA for what is an absolute world record in the world of football.
We should also enter in The Guiness Book of Records, between the man who ate the biggest pizza in the world and the girl who farted a thousand time in ten minutes.
